A little about me
I am a certified birth doula through DONA International. I value continuing education opportunities, and believe in the importance of adhering to the standards of practice and code of ethics, which help create a positive birthing environment and collaborative relationships with medical care providers. I've attended over 150 births from San Francisco to San Jose, and feel honored each time I join a family in welcoming their newest addition. Connecting parents to the resources to help them make informed choices about their care is such a passion of mine.
I practice yoga and mindfulness, and enjoy cooking, eating, knitting, and spending time with friends and loved ones. I love to laugh, and try to bring at least a little bit of joy to everything I do. I live with my husband James and our dog Ruby in San Mateo.
I have a BA in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, with a focus on social & developmental psychology. In one of my classes, a midwife came to speak to the students about pregnancy, labor, and birth. She conveyed to us how these experiences deeply affected parents and children. I was hooked. What an interesting world! She introduced us to the concept of a doula: non-medical support, someone who works just for the laboring woman and her partner, and who doesn't have her own agenda for the birth she's attending. It sounded like an amazing role, and the right one for me.
I am absolutely honored to witness the love, strength, and determination of a family as it grows.
